Provost’s Chair

Entrenched by Pope Urban VIII in the 1630 bull establishing the Saint Helena Collegiate and, confirmed by the Roman Curia early in the eighteenth century, after certain unhappy vicissitudes, is the special seat in the choir that is prerogative to the Birkirkara Provost, as pre-eminent of the Collegiate.

This is separate from the choir-stalls. It consists of a leather upholstered armchair raised on three steps, with a prie-dieu covered with green damask.
